How to care for a hanging basket

Hanging baskets are a quick and simple way to add color
to your deck, front entrance, or patio.
Do you know what you need to do for maximum performance all summer long?

Take good care to select a basket that will thrive in the
conditions where you will hang it to live this summer.

All plants need the proper sunlight (or lack thereof)
in order to bring you the most enjoyment.

That irresistible fuchsia will fry in as little as 3 hours in the hot sun but
will reward you with lovely blooms all summer if she's in the shade.

Petunias love the full sun.  They won't bloom as prolifically in the shade
and will become 'leggy'.

One of the biggest problems we see with hanging baskets is under-watering.
As the plants grow, their roots fill in and they require more water.
And fertilizer.  If you want a lush and full basket, you
have to water it and fertilize it.

A hanging basket that has not been fertilized or watered enough to support
healthy growth will suffer.

Most, but not all, also need to be dead-headed, which is to say, to remove spent
flowers to encourage more blooms.

Always water your hanging baskets until water is coming out of the bottom - this will ensure proper hydration of the entire root ball.

We include a continuous release fertilizer in our baskets,
not every nursery does.
A great way to ensure your baskets stay beautiful (even with time release
fertilizer in the soil) until frost is to
feed them weekly with a water soluble fertilizer.

These beauties have been lovingly cared for and it shows.
Same rules for hanging baskets also apply to patio pots.

Be sure to ask us if you have any questions about caring for
your baskets this spring.  We want you to be
successful and happy!!!
